Let’s build a Missoula where everyone has a home, a job they can depend on, and a community they can walk and bike through with pride.

Building a Better Future

  • Affordable housing is a basic right. As Missoula continues to grow, the cost of living has increased, making it harder for many residents to find secure and affordable places to live. We need to prioritize housing solutions that are accessible to everyone, not just the wealthy few.

    Policy Goals:

    • Increase Affordable Housing Supply: Work with local developers to create more affordable housing units through incentives and zoning adjustments that prioritize long-term affordability.

    • Rent Control and Tenant Protections: Implement rent control policies and expand tenant rights to prevent displacement and protect vulnerable residents.

    • Support for First-Time Homebuyers: Introduce programs to help first-time homebuyers with down payments and low-interest loans, especially for working-class individuals and families.

  • Homelessness is a complex issue that requires a compassionate, multi-faceted approach. Our goal is to not only provide shelter but also to ensure that everyone in Missoula has access to the resources they need to live a fulfilling, independent life.

    Policy Goals:

    • Expand Homeless Shelters & Housing First Programs: Increase the number of shelters, and focus on housing-first solutions to ensure that everyone has a stable place to live before addressing other needs.

    • Mental Health and Addiction Services: Provide better access to mental health resources and addiction recovery programs for individuals experiencing homelessness.

Supportive Services and Job Training: Partner with local organizations to offer job training, educational opportunities, and healthcare to help people break the cycle of homelessness.

  • The strength of Missoula lies in its working people. We must stand with unions and protect the rights of workers to ensure fair wages, benefits, and safe working conditions.

    Policy Goals:

    • Support for Local Unions: Advocate for policies that ensure union workers have the right to organize, bargain collectively, and secure fair wages and benefits.

    • Raise the Minimum Wage: Gradually raise the minimum wage to a livable amount to ensure that every worker in Missoula can meet their basic needs.

Ensure Safe Workplaces: Strengthen enforcement of workplace safety regulations to protect workers from unsafe conditions, particularly in manual labor industries and construction.

  • To build a sustainable, healthy, and connected Missoula, we must prioritize walking and biking infrastructure. This will improve the quality of life, reduce traffic congestion, and lessen our environmental impact.

    Policy Goals:

    • Expand Bike Lanes and Walking Paths: Create more dedicated bike lanes and walking paths, making them safer and more accessible for people of all ages.

    • Improve Public Transit: Develop better public transportation options that complement biking and walking, providing a holistic solution to transportation needs.

Green Space and Urban Planning: Design neighborhoods to be more walkable, with easy access to parks, shops, and community spaces, reducing the need for cars and promoting healthier lifestyles.

Why This Matters
for Missoula

We are a growing community, but growth shouldn’t come at the expense of our neighbors. By focusing on affordable housing, alleviating homelessness, protecting workers’ rights, and making Missoula a more walkable, bike-friendly city, we can create a Missoula that works for everyone. We must make sure that all of our residents, regardless of income, ability, or background, have the opportunity to thrive in a sustainable, just, and equitable city.

Let’s build a Missoula where everyone has a home, a job they can depend on, and a community they can walk and bike through with pride.

Who is Lucas Moody?

Lucas grew up along the banks of Rattlesnake Creek in Missoula, Montana, where childhood was marked by seasonal rituals like building miniature dams with friends—carefully crafted structures they’d watch break apart each spring as the ice melted and water surged. These early experiences sparked a lifelong appreciation for both nature’s rhythms and the quiet joy of observing how things change over time.

After high school, Lucas set out to see more of the world and spent a formative period in Ireland, where he worked with the Simon Community in Cork—a charity dedicated to supporting people experiencing homelessness. His time there was deeply influential, expanding his worldview and nurturing a deep sense of compassion and service that has stayed with him ever since.

Lucas went on to attend college in Spokane, Washington, and later moved to San Diego before the pull of home brought him back to Missoula. Once returned, he rooted himself in community life. He has been a dedicated volunteer at the Missoula Food Bank for over two decades, committed to ensuring dignity and access for all members of the community.

He also takes great pride in the integrity of Montana’s democratic process, having worked with local elections for 10 years. A believer in civic responsibility and the power of collective action, Lucas now works at the public library—another cornerstone of equitable community access—and is a proud union member.

Outside of work, Lucas is an avid board gamer and tabletop role-playing enthusiast, often gathering with friends to strategize, imagine, and explore new worlds. He finds joy in walking the trails around Missoula with dogs by his side and cherishes philosophical conversations with his sister, which often range from the practical to the profound.

Whether it’s through service, play, or quiet reflection, Lucas brings thoughtfulness, creativity, and heart to everything he does. Missoula has shaped him, and in turn, he’s helped shape the soul of this community.
